The Buys Family in the Netherlands
This account was given to me by Albert Buys, my mother Virginia's fourth cousin.
Johannes Buys (1764-1838) was born in Dieman, the Netherlands, son of Philippus Buys (1732-1782) and Clara Christina Tade (1741-1778). Philippus was a gardner and thus the family was poor. Philippus and Clara both died fairly young, and the young Johannes was adopted by the family Frerichs, who were rich and of the Lutheran faith. Johannes eventually married Sophia Maria Frerichs of that family.
Johannes was very bright in math and physics, and later received an honorary PhD. His business acumen made him decide to work for a brokerage firm. Johannes lived in beautiful houses on the Herengracht Canal in Amsterdam.
