Charles McElroy (1837-1918) - Family Documents
Civil War Pension File
Since Charles' wife Harriet outlived him, she was entitled upon his death to receive a widow's pension, due to his Civil War service. Cousin Sharon obtained a scan of her 91 page pension application file from the National Archives, and I have uploaded it to the left. Click on the image to the left or the link above to view the complete document.
Among the tedious pages of the application itself, the pension file for Charles McElroy is full of interesting information about his Civil War service, family, personal characteristics and more. Pages 44, 48, 55, 59, 83 and 84 are especially noteworthy. There is also an "invalid" pension application enclosed in the file, to compensate for Charles medical disabilities in his later life. |
New Years Eve Diary (1905-1916)
Charles McElroy wrote these diary entries in his Bible on New Year's Eve during the dozen years of his life (he died Nov 18, 1918). Click on the link above or on the picture to the left to see the complete set of pages, along with a transcription.
